Some 6 months after purchasing my 508 GT, I am still grappling with some aspects of the onboard tech features of the car. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the 300-odd page 'one-size-fits-all' Owners Manual - where 'depending on version' is an oft-repeated phrase - is often not a very helpful source of information.
I have noticed that the Touch Screen system version is dated 2020 and that it appears that (at least) 2 subsequent updates since then have been missed - despite the fact that the car has had 2 services. (BTW, the system update info has been gleaned via the UK Peugeot website which is more comprehensive than the Aust website)
It begs the question: My next service isn't due until December, but should these updates be done by the dealer or by the owner? If the latter - has anyone done it and, if so, has the process gone smoothly? (input VIN, download any update(s) to computer, transfer to USB, plug into car)
OK, some may say "beware of paying heed to the UK website" but, given that Peugeot doesn't see fit to provide model-specific manuals, it seems incongruous that they would bother to design and instal Aust-specific system coding for our tiny market - for something as generic as the infotainment touch screen?
As for the map updates that the UK website says I can have, I'll let that go because I don't want to risk getting UK/EUR changes. Anyway, it isn't a big concern as I am usually plugged into CarPlay and use that for navigation.
Interested to hear any opinions or feedback.

At a guess, they'd probably only update the system on request or when you order new maps.

I did the latest update on my 2021 508 the other day using the Peugeot update PC app and the USB stick linked below. Pretty straightforward but took about 30 mins while idling. Can't notice any visual changes but I feel like it responds to inputs slightly quicker which is nice. Have loaded the map update now as well but not in a rush to do that as I always use Carplay...

Hi ZonarHD,

I gather from a Youtube video that the Software Update function should appear in the MyPeugeot App adjacent to Connected Services options within the Vehicle Tab, but this is not appearing for some reason.

Does your app look like this? I'm interested to know if I've got the latest updates.

Also, I noticed there is another app called "ScanMyPeugeot" which is meant to have some sort of augmented reality explanation of features. When I try to register my car, it keeps on saying "Error retrieving configuration information". Do you use this app?

Many thanks

The app on your phone might tell you about the updates and perhaps provide a link, but it's the app on your PC (Windoze or Mac) that downloads the updates and installs them on a USB stick for you.

Here's a link:

What is Peugeot Update

Yours might be new enough to do OTA (over the air) updates, in which case the Peugeot Update app will be useless to you.

Firmware updates don't really add new features - all they do is resolve connectivity issues with phones, ie. Bluetooth, etc.

It may be that you currently will not be able to update your firmware. Peugeot has had some problems with updating expired certificates of late, however some of it (but not all) has been resolved recently.

Thanks SLC206 - my current System Version is 42.03.31.32_NAC-r0.
I haven't had any problems with Bluetooth connection, so maybe best left be.

The 508 II infotainment is a big upgrade from the old 508 RT6 unit.
The only thing missing I thought was Wireless Carplay (i.e you have to physically connect via USB).

For $40, I thought this little USB dongle was worth a try.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/387125375199

With the dongle, wireless carplay works as described. Unlike the wired version the carplay doesn't occupy the full real estate of the touch screen, but really it works very well, It connects with all the same functionality without plugging in the USB within a couple of seconds.

SCL206 described the process perfectly. I also have a 2021 508 GT but doesn't do OTA updates so that method is the way to go. Mines also missing wireless charging so it's pretty much pointless using Wireless CarPlay as it'll kill the battery on the phone quickly.

My System version is 44.07.33.32 (latest). Everything looks the same however it does feel slightly more responsive. The rain sensing wipers seem to be better behaved and I also had a glitch where the radar cruise would sometimes change the default back to far distance which this update resolved. Once you've got the system software loaded on a usb you plug it into the USB port on the drivers side and takes about 30 mins which the car running to complete.

Thanks ZonarHD and SLC206. I'll give it a go over the weekend. Weirdly the bluetooth glitched this morning, so it sounds like it's worth doing.

One missing thing I thought from the iCockpit was that is cannot display how many kms left in the tank. I always found it very handy in deciding whether to pull into a petrol station when on a long drive on the highway. Other than that, it has everything I want.
The piano buttons are nice, but it also seems like a missed opportunity for the user to define their own shortcuts.
e.g Press buttons 1 & 2 simultaneously to dial a specific phone number. Press 1 & 3 for another number.
Peugeot moved to configurable buttons on the 408, but I suspect with the 508 now being discontinued we won't see any more enhancements.

Hey mate,

There's 2 separate downloads for the Software & the Maps. I did attempt to do the maps however when I plugged the USB in to the car it wanted to upgrade UK maps and didn't give me an Aus option. I haven't bothered to attempt it again since I always use CarPlay for maps (honestly wouldn't faze me if the car didn't have any sort of built in maps).

Screenshot of what the Peugeot Update app SLC206 linked shows me. Hope that helps...

Thanks ZonarHD. I thought that might be the case, and didn't want stuff up the Aus maps that I do have. I'll update the firmware only.
I generally use Google Maps on CarPlay too. The SatNav is pretty handy though when you're driving through towns without 4G.

FYI - I did find this site (linked from a Peugeot forum) which appears to have Maps for Oceania, but am a little reluctant to see if it works.

I don't know what they mean by wave, Are cars linked to a Wave based on their VIN number? If updating via an App, I'm guessing it should pick the correct one.

Depending on the wave, the most recent update for Australia is 10.0.0.0-r0, 13.0.0.0-r0, 25.0.0.0-r0 or 26.0.0.0-r0

On another forum, it suggests the latest version for Oceania is 23.0.0-r0

You're right to be cautious: the Peugeot Update app does not select the correct maps for Australia. It thinks you're a UK resident.

Wave 1-4 is the hardware version of your infotainment unit.

Based on assumptions you probably have a Wave 4, but if you feed your VIN into the search box at the home page, it should tell you:

The latest OCE version of maps for the Wave 4 is v13, released in Sept 24, whereas my Wave 2 unit is v26, released 31 October 24.

It's not that hard to update the maps using the appropriate link, but it's a little more fiddly than using the Peugeot Update app.

Are you using Windoze or Mac? Let me know if you are brave enough and I'll write up a little burst on it if you want.

Hi SLC206 - you were right. I'm on Wave 4 based on the VIN.

I'm a Windows user. Instructions on how to apply the latest NAV update (13.0.0.0-r0) would be awesome!

Many thanks again. :)

  1. Firstly you'll need a USB stick. I use a 16GB one but I think Peugeot specify 32GB or less.
  2. Once plugged in to your PC, right click on the USB stick and choose "Format..."
  3. Select FAT32 as the File system. Quick Format checked has always worked for me, but if you want to waste lots of time, uncheck this.
  4. Download the oce map file from the TomTom server (link is on post #14 above). It will be a .tar file. Don't copy it to the USB stick.
  5. It's possible to use Windows to expand the .tar file, but easier to download a program called 7Zip. It's free and open source.
  6. Once you've installed 7Zip, right click on the .tar file and choose "Extract here" from the 7Zip menu (not to the USB stick).
  7. Open the folder it creates that has a similar name to the .tar file.
  8. Select the two files in the folder (an SWL folder and Updateinfo file), right click and chose "Send to"
  9. Choose the freshly-formatted USB stick.
  10. You should now have only those two files on the USB stick (not inside a folder, but at the top level of the stick).
  11. Eject the USB stick (right click, choose "Eject")
  12. Start your car, disable stop/start, and insert the USB stick. Perhaps don't do this inside a garage.
  13. Ignore any warnings saying "this disk contains no media" or similar that may appear.
  14. Wait for the update process to begin. You may need to select the maps via a checkbox on the screen.
  15. Don't stop the engine during the update procedure. It should take around 10-15 mins.
  16. Remove USB stick when it says update complete.

Thanks SLC206 and ZonarHD - Firmware and maps are now updated to the latest. Much appreciated.:)
